Sometimes earthquakes or volcanic eruptions cause massive Tsunami that destroys property and lives on a large scale. Here is a list top 10 most dangerous Tsunamis ever.

10-Sumatra, Indonesia – 26 December 2004

An earthquake of 9.1 magnitudes hit Sumatra. It was a 50 m high tsunami. Around 230,000 people were killed and many buildings were damaged.

9-North Pacific Coast, Japan – 11 March 2011

10 m high waves traveling at the speed of 800 killed more than 18,000 people. It started because of an earthquake of magnitude 9. 452,000 people lost their homes. Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant started to leak radioactive steam and a radioactive emergency was created. It took $235 billion to repair the damages.

8-Lisbon, Portugal – 1 November 1755

An earthquake of 8.5 magnitude caused 3 huge waves to strike numerous towns along the west coast of Portugal and southern Spain, A total of 60thousand people were killed due to tsunami and earthquake.

7-Krakatau, Indonesia – 27 August 1883

The explosion of the Krakatau caldera volcano caused the tsunami. Waves reached the height of 37 m were and destroyed the towns of Anjer and Merak. About 40,000 people were killed. Although the volcanic eruption was responsible for killing 2,000 people as well.

An earthquake of magnitude 8.3, caused a massive tsunami along the coasts of Kii, Mikawa, Surugu, Izu, and Sagami. Buildings were destroyed and more than 30thpusand people were killed.

5-Nankaido, Japan – 28 October 1707

A magnitude 8.4 earthquake produced 25m high sea waves that rushed towards the cities. 30,000 buildings were destroyed and 30,000 people were killed.

4-Sanriku, Japan – 15 June 1896

An earthquake of magnitude 7.6 caused the tsunami along the coast of Sanriku, Japan. At Shirahama the waves reached a height of 38.2 m damaging more than 11thousand homes and took the lives of more than 25,000 people. Another tsunami hit the east coast of China, killed 4000 people and destroyed the village.
